Swimming is not an easy sport. Natural talent obviously helps but to be successful you really do need to put in hours of training not only to hone your technique but to build up your stamina too. Under the careful tutelage of Head Coach Adrian Smith, a squad of 50 travelled east to enjoy (sic) intensive swim and land training in Norfolk over the October half term.

“It is straight forward really; the squad has access to much more pool time than normal that really helps their development. It is really satisfying to see the progress that can be made in one intensive training week swimming twice a day with land training sandwiched in between.”  But all work and no play doesn’t work either. The emphasis at Crusaders is about having fun too and seeing 8 years olds tearing around a Go Karting track or watching high 5s after a strike at Tenpin bowling makes the week truly memorable

At the business end, Crusaders triumphed. “It has been without doubt one of the best training camps ever. We took a strong squad but were facing a Great Yarmouth side that we had not beaten in 9 years!” After 12 events Crusaders were 1st and 2nd & after 17 events 1st and joint 2nd. The Crusaders ‘A’ team were ahead right from the start and held out to bring home the trophy at last.

The swim week brings together many families with children from our ‘learn to swim’ scheme right through to our senior swimmers. It is run by Crusaders members and combines a balanced combination of training and entertainment that leaves everyone wanting to book the following year before they even get home.

Final Results: Linslade Crusaders ‘A’ 151, Great Yarmouth Blue 140, Linslade Crusaders ‘B’ 117, Great Yarmouth White 25
